Building businesses that build people.
Entrepreneur, enterprise developer and stakeholder engagement specialist working at the intersection of development, economic participation and community impact.

About
Patrick Moraka is a first-generation, self-made entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience in business development, stakeholder engagement, social facilitation and economic development.
His work is grounded in a practical belief: development creates its greatest value when projects succeed and the communities around them are able to participate meaningfully in the opportunities they create.
From building and employing teams to working within major development environments, Patrick has developed a practical understanding of business, local enterprise and stakeholder dynamics. Today, his work brings these experiences together across five interconnected areas.
The journey
Patrick’s story is not simply a list of positions held. It is a journey through entrepreneurship, growth, challenge, learning, and the development of a broader purpose.
Patrick begins his entrepreneurial journey in Tembisa.
The business employs eleven people.
At its peak, Patrick's commercial contract cleaning business employs 335 people, growing from a small enterprise into an established SME.
Patrick's experience operating in complex development environments gives him first-hand insight into what can happen when business objectives, local expectations and economic participation are not aligned early enough. Rather than stepping away from the development sector, he begins studying these dynamics and developing a practical approach centred on structured engagement, enterprise participation and shared economic opportunity.
Mall of Thembisa becomes an important proof point for Patrick's stakeholder engagement and social facilitation approach, with the development completing with zero work stoppages across the build programme.
Patrick works across entrepreneurship, enterprise development, stakeholder engagement and socio-economic development, connecting commercial experience with a wider ambition for inclusive economic participation.
What Patrick does
Major developments bring together developers, contractors, government, communities, local enterprises and other stakeholders, often with different priorities and expectations. Patrick works within these environments to help establish structured stakeholder engagement and local economic participation from the outset.
His approach is centred on stronger relationships, clearer expectations, credible participation and more resilient project delivery.
Understanding the people, institutions and interests surrounding a project and creating structured channels for meaningful engagement.
Supporting constructive engagement between projects, communities and other stakeholders throughout the development programme.
Helping create pathways through which local enterprises can participate meaningfully in economic opportunities associated with development.
Supporting credible frameworks for local procurement, employment and enterprise participation.
Helping project teams identify stakeholder considerations early and build engagement into the wider delivery strategy.
Supporting evidence-based reporting on local participation, employment, enterprise development and related outcomes.
Approach
Successful development is not only about what gets built. It is also about the relationships created around it. Patrick believes stakeholder engagement should begin before challenges emerge.
Early engagement creates an opportunity to understand expectations, establish credible participation mechanisms and create greater clarity between project stakeholders.
The objective is not simply engagement for its own sake. It is to help create an environment in which development can progress and participation can be meaningful.

View case studyThe bigger picture
Patrick’s experience in development has shaped a broader question.
How can economic growth create more pathways for people to participate?
For Patrick, enterprise development is not simply about procurement targets, and community engagement is not simply about meetings. Both form part of a larger conversation about access to opportunity, entrepreneurship, employment and the ability of people to participate meaningfully in the economy.
That perspective increasingly informs Patrick’s work beyond individual projects and into leadership, partnerships and nation-building initiatives.
